Students who major in French or complete a double major in French and another field are well equipped to pursue careers in research, teaching, international relations, the foreign service, international business, travel and tourism, communications, journalism, the arts, or any field that draws upon a rich liberal arts education
Many of our majors are double majors in a variety of disciplines, including Business Economics, Communications, Art History, Global Studies, and International Relations.
In today’s world, education needs to develop our ability to grasp the perspective of cultures different than our own. Our French program responds to these needs. Since our undergraduate French program includes innovative textual and visual materials dealing with cross-cultural encounters, our students may address issues pertinent to the intersections of national and international issues. They develop a better awareness of cultural differences by learning the Western European heritage that informs the experience not only of metropolitan French speakers, but also of Francophone minorities within and outside France. Students can thus discover the rich diversity of African, Caribbean, Canadian, Middle Eastern, and Asian communities that still elect French as their primary or secondary language.
