| 3. How do my AP scores or SAT II scores transfer? |
- Students with AP Test scores or SAT II Scores (CEEB) may place themselves in French according to the information below (an approval or add code is needed from the department before accessing GOLD).
- As of 12/3/04, students who have a score of 4 on the French language examination should be allowed to complete French 5 and 6 for credit, even thought the current catalog would make such registration duplicate matriculation.
- For students admitted to UCSB prior to 2005, the current placement (see below) will be honored for purposes of fulfilling major requirements beyond level 3. However, if students wish to begin their study of the language at a level that would be allowed under next year’s plan, full credit should be awarded.

| 4. What if I have an International Baccalaureate? |
- Students completing the IB diploma with a score of 30 or above will receive 30 quarter units total toward their UC undergraduate degree. The university grants 8 quarter units for certified IB Higher Level examination on which a student scores 5, 6, or 7. Students may NOT enroll in French 1 - 6 if they received credit for the IB Higher Level exam.
- If you have such degree, please make an appointment with Dr. Schultz, because your level may be higher than French 26 or 101A/B, or any classes in area A. Dr. Schultz will determine in which classes you may enroll.

5. Two additional points:
- Students who take the French Placement Test must still contact the department before signing up for a class.
- Students who are transferring any college coursework in a language should not take the language placement exam, but instead must use their transfer credit as a guide for language placement. Generally, two semesters of language is equal to one year at UCSB (3 quarters). If you have taken only semester 1, you may enroll in quarter 2 or 3--it's your choice.
