Our Graduate Program -
The Requirements for the Master of Arts Degree:
1. MA students must take a minimum of 48 units of classwork (12 courses).
2. They are required to take seminars in 5 of the 6 traditional chronological periods (medieval, renaissance, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries) and to write papers in at least 4 of them.
3. In addition to the "area" and unit requirements, students must take at least 1 seminar in literary theory, and write a paper in that course.
4. Students must demonstrate proficiency in a third language in addition to French and English.
5. Candidates for the MA must have completed at least 2 quarters as a Teaching Assistant.
6. Successful completion of the written and oral portions of the MA examination (taken in spring quarter of second year of study).
