CLOSING EVENT of the JEAN-PAUL SARTRE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
In a 1947 essay about hearing jazz in New York City, Jean-Paul Sartre
noted that "Jazz is like bananas-- it must be consumed on the spot. .
.Jazz is the national pastime of the United States." Inspired by
Sartre's passion for jazz, we invite you to join us for the final event
in the Sarte Centennial Celebration's week-long program of symposia,
dramatic presentations, and historical exhibitions: a jazz concert
commemorating the golden age of Saint Germain des Prés!
Featuring local ensembles Le Gendarmes du Swing
and the Rob Wallace Jazz quartet
and special guest, French trumpeter Alain Brunet.
Brunet has performed with a host of European and American jazz artists, including Sonny Stitt, Daniel Humair Prince H. Lawsha, Kenneth Nash, Stephan Grappelli,
Michel Petrucciani, New Port All Stars, Olivier Hutman, Aldo Romano,
Tony Reedus, and Essiett Essiett, among others.

We thank Pierre Wiaz for his wonderful caricature of Sartre
and his gracious authorization to use it. |
