ITALIAN 125
Contemporary Italian Literature

Recommended preparation: Italian 101 or 102.
This course examines current practices of writing in Italy, ranging from short stories to autobiography, from cultural journalism to avant-garde fictions. Each week students will read and discuss a variety of selected texts reflecting important trends and themes in Italian culture today, from immigration and media politics to changes in the family and in attitudes toward love and sex.
Dr. Alessio Filippi, the course instructor, is visiting UCSB in the Spring 2007 quarter from the University of Southern California, where he teaches Italian language and literature. He received his B.A. in Italian Studies from our department in 1996, and his Ph.D. in Italian literature from UCLA in 2006.
N.B. In Spring 2007 Italian 26 will NOT be a prerequisite for Italian 125. Students may enroll in Italian 125 through the Department Office, open Monday-Friday from 9 AM-12 PM and 1 PM-4 PM, if unable to enroll via GOLD]
