The French Department is pleased to announce the creation of a new French 6 course designed to address the interests of Global Studies students.

This is a French 6 language course covering the standard grammar and vocabulary. However, the readings, film, music, and activities have been selected according to the following 4 topics:

  • --French Colonization in Africa and its Aftermaths (La présence française en Afrique)
  • --The Politics of Speaking French (Le français, langue marâtre, langue adoptive)
  • --France, the European Union, and Globalization (L'Union Européenne et la Mondialisation)
  • --Popular Poetry : Immigration and Music (Poésie Populaire : la réception de la culture française par les chanteurs issus d'immigration)

The Global Studies French 6 course will be offered twice this year. The prerequisite for the course is French 5 or its equivalent.

This innovative class is opened to all qualified students, and not only to Global Studies majors.
