Bienvenue en Français 6!

French 6 is the third quarter continuation of the Intermediate French Program sequence. The course, which is taught entirely in French, includes a review and refinement of French grammar, reading short stories and poems, a film, and presentations of French and Francophone cultural material. The French 6 classroom is very interactive and conversationally oriented, at the same time that there is a focus on improving reading and writing skills. Prerequisites: completion of French 5 or its equivalent.

Classroom conversation will focus on the differences between French, Francophone, and American culture and customs and will include:

  • The French perspective
  • Fashion
  • Technology
  • Sports
  • French and Francophone Cinema

Readings in French 6 focus on French philosophical traditions, particularly Existentialism, and include short stories by Voltaire, Camus, and Sartre.

 

We will cover the following grammar points:

  • The past conditional
  • The passive voice
  • Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns
  • The comparative and superlative
  • Faire causative and verbs of perception
  • Negations
  • Prepositions
  • Relative pronouns

Course work includes regular workbook exercises and language lab, 3 quizzes, 3 short compositions, 1 midterm, and 1 final.
