Bienvenue en Français 1!

French 1 is the first quarter of the three-quarter Beginning French series intended for those who have had no previous instruction in the language. Because instruction is given entirely in French from the very first day using methods that make the language completely comprehensible, easy, and fun, you will make spectacular progress in your ability to speak the language.

Some of the conversational topics we will cover are:

  • Talking ourselves
  • Talking about our families and hobbies, music, and sports
  • Talking about our friends
  • Talking about our careers
  • Talking about our typical day

Some cultural topics are:

  • French and Francophone culture throughout the world
  • French and Francophone family life
  • Studying and working in Canada
  • French and Francophone fashion worldwide

We will cover the following grammar topics:

  • Regular – er and - ir ( dormer) verb conjugations
  • The irregular verbs être, avoir, faire, aller, devoir, pouvoir, vouloir
  • Pronominal verbs
  • Gender of nouns and adjectives and noun/adjective agreements
  • Possessive adjectives
  • Simple negations
  • Simple question forms
  • The imperative
  • Comparative and superlative structures

Course work includes regular workbook exercises and language lab, 5 quizzes, 4 short compositions, 1 midterm, and 1 final.
