Renaissance Poetry

With Professor Skenazi

Course Prerequisites: French 26; & French 101A or 101B

Topic: This course focuses on the great masterpieces of French Renaissance poetry with special attention given to poets of the "Ecole de Lyon" and the "Pléiade." We will read works by Marot, Scève, Du Bellay, and Ronsard "in the political and cultural context of the day".

Course Requirements: 2 papers, an oral presentation,
a mid-term and a final exam.

The course is taught entirely in French. All readings and writings in French.

GE Education: This course satisfies area G and the Writing Requirement of the General Education Program.

French major:
It also counts toward area B1 of the French major, and as an elective in area C.
